A highly regarded breed of sporting dog, the pointer's name refers to the way it appears to stand and point towards its quarry. First recorded in 1650, in England, they were originally used to 'point out' hares for greyhounds to track down, but by the eighteen century had been trained as a 'bird dog'. |
